JORGE GALLARDO (1924-2002)

One of the most important figurative artists of Costa Rica, compromised with the representation of themes of the people. "Artist of the Costa Ricans and friend of the dispossessed...When the Costa Rican art be truly reachable for all our peoples, the artwork of Gallardo will occupy the place that corresponds him. In spite of the critics.", that is how the Costa Rican famous writer Jorge Debravo described in 1975 to this artists.

Just to mention some of his many important achievements, his painting La Eucarístia (The Eucharist) is permanently exhibited at The Vatican since 1973, received the Papal Medal, and the Apostolic Blessing, three times from Pope Paul VI. Jorge Gallardo is mentioned in the universal art literature by "History of the Painting", Raymond Cogniat and "The Art and The Man" (Larousse-Paris Editorial) Rene Huygke, Honorary Chief of Louvre Museum, Paris.
